  • Copy of current teaching certificate required for degree + certification program (not required for degree only)
  • Evidence of at least one completed undergraduate degree program
  • Official transcripts from every college/university where coursework was completed
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale (may calculate GPA on the last 48 semester hours)
    • If GPA is 2.7 to 2.999, then applicant will be considered for *provisional acceptance into the degree only program. Applicants must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 if seeking degree plus certification.

*Provisional acceptance is granted to those applicants who do not quite meet the minimum GPA requirement for full admission into a graduate program but meet all other admission requirements and show academic promise within the discipline. Provisionally accepted students will work with an advisor to schedule and complete a minimum of twelve (12) graduate level credits. Once the student can demonstrate that s/he is capable of succeeding at the graduate level (achieving a 3.0 or higher on 12+ graduate credits), then, through department recommendation, the student may be eligible to continue on the path toward graduation or reapply to the degree plus certification program.

SUBMIT THE FOLLOWING DOCUMENTS PRIOR TO REGISTRATION FOR YOUR FIRST COURSE:

  • Clearances: Prior to participating in any field experiences for an SL&IT course, students who are already certified teachers will need to send evidence that they have met the clearances required for the state in which they reside or in which they perform a field experience.

Students can submit evidence in two ways

1. Submit a letter signed by a building principal stating that they have met the clearances requirements of their state (available online, at: http://library.mansfield.edu/pdf/clearances.pdf), or

2. Submit copies of their clearances.

Students who are not certified teachers must meet all requirements for PA clearances: 1)Pennsylvania Criminal Record check (Act 34); 2) Child Abuse History clearance (Act 151); 3) Negative TB tine test; and, 4) PA-FBI fingerprint check.

  • Liability insurance:  Proof of professional liability insurance is required for students participating in any field experiences. Students may satisfy the requirement by emailing Jill Scott stating that they have insurance with at least one million dollars of coverage.
  • Affiliation Agreement: Students must submit an Affiliation Agreement, a legal document outlining the duties, terms, conditions and responsibilities of the university and school district(s) in which they plan to perform field experiences. The Affiliation Agreement must be signed by a district/county administrator prior to participating in a field experience or practicum.

Submit all three documents to the SL&IT Office, in care of: Ms. Jill Scott, 202 Retan, Mansfield University, Mansfield, PA 16933.
