Job Description

Position description (i.e. general duties):
A graduate assistant (GA) employed through the Academic and Human Development’s Learning Center will work 9 hours per week and all supervision will be conducted by Learning Center Director/Assistant Director. The GA must have some experience working with excel spreadsheets and basic computer skills. The ideal candidate will have an understanding of collaborative learning environments and have some understanding of developmental education.
 
Specific Assignments/Responsibilities:

The graduate assistant will be required to conduct a study skills workshops for students who were recently reinstated by the academic review board prior to the start of the new semester. The responsibilities are as follows:
  • Develop a study skills workshop syllabus, instruct weekly sessions
  • Provide an interactive learning environment and instruction that address diverse learning modalities
  • Conduct seminar assessment and Evaluate the seminar’s effectiveness
  • Provide periodic reports to the Learning Center Director
  • Assist students in the tutoring, SI, and DSS programs
  • Provide student follow-up appointments
  • Provide the Learning Center Director with a final report
Other responsibilities the graduate assistant may be in charge of are:
  • Proctoring/Administrating appropriate testing accommodations for LD students on a as needed basis
  • Working with Tutors, SI Leaders, and supervisors to improve overall program outcomes
  • Conducting research on student outcomes
  • Analyzing data from study skills workshops, SI groups and tutoring sessions by semester and academic year 
Basic requirements (i.e. typing, filing, lifting, driving, teaching, speaking, computer, etc):
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and TutorTrac, filing, teaching, planning, excellent communication and organizational skills
